Hi Colin,

Excellent, thank you. The +8 is owned by a lady who by her own admission is
non-technical so she relies on a reputable local mechanic; I suspect I'll
end up priming him as she lives 70+ miles away. I'll let you know how it all
works out.

Regards,
Lawrence

Hi Lawrence

A very simple check is to get the car to do it and put jump leads to another
battery and see if the idle returns, it could be the IACV (Idle Air Control
Valve), simple to fix and if he changes it make sure the casting is stamped
'Made in Mexico' as they are the later ones, you will read about needing a
Rovacom to set them which is untrue, 5 cycles of start and stops sets the
throttle off position and the IACV will motor down to the correct value.
Also don't buy via a Morgan dealer, I was quoted £135 and the item was £60
at a Land Rover dealership.

Thanks Colin,

I'll be speaking to the owner later today so I'll investigate the battery
issue.

Cheers,
Lawrence

As Stuart types

Even a battery that starts the car fine can be low enough to replicate this
condition, on my 2002 car (built late 2001) the same condition would be
there if I had the car on idle with the heated screen and lights on. As
Stuart says a battery conditioner helps but not if your away from home (seen
several GEMS cars have this problem at weekend gatherings), the ultimate
solution is to move the battery to the rear and get a larger capacity
battery and the problem is gone forever.

Colin
