I suggest using the printmib.monitor. I was having some problems with hpnp monitor (can't remember what) and I also had a mixed environment of Xerox, Canon, and HP printers, and printmib.monitor supports all those printers. http://ftp.kernel.org/pub/software/admin/mon/contrib/monitors/printers/
