Ralph - I'm running Redhat 7.2. I'm going to try this. I will let you know if this works.

I take it that it's a solaris box that you're compiling on... You want the element LIBS not LDFLAGS in your Makefile.PL (WriteMakefile doesn't look for LDFLAGS) and you want the line to read... 'LIBS' => '-lsocket -lnsl', this will link the libsocket and libnsl libraries (where gethostbyname and such live) Most of these errors are because it's not being linked properly... I'm thinking that you'll probably want to also add in your Makefile.PL in the call to WriteMakefile a line that looks like 'CCFLAGS' => '-symbolic' So that it know's that what your doing is trying to shared lib and not some executable -----Original Message----- From: Schmidt-1, Pamela [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2002 10:29 AM To: 'Chris Denneen'; Pamela Schmidt Cc: Daniel O Cummings; Jon Meek; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Re: FW: Newbie Question - Receiving an undefined error whentrying to startmon Chris - The change to the Makefile.PL only corrects for one error message. I see you have the same error message "WARNING: LDFLAGS is not a known parameter" that I am getting. What I have found out is that LDFLAGS uses a module called ld and it doesn't appear to be loaded on my server. I'm not sure where to find this module, at this time. I'm currently in the process of looking into where the ld module is stored. I will keep you and the list informed of any advances.
