Sorry, I must have missed that part of the question...

For the record, I've been running Mon with a common Linux distro in
a desktop environment (with X & KDE) for quite some time with no
problems.  The Linux distro is now not even very recent (except for
security updates).  I've easily had uptimes of several months.

So, if you have two different sets of hardware that appear to
exhibit this problem, then that is strange indeed if Mon is
the source of the problems.

Of course, this doesn't help much toward actually solving your
problem.
