We monitor our Powerware ups'es via SNMP. However I don't believe there is a standard SNMP MIB for ups monitoring, so you need to use the vendor specific MIB for your UPS.
I can provide the UPS monitoring script that we use, if you happen to use Powerware devices, or if you want to use it as a starting point for writing one to use your vendor's MIB.
