Kirk & Mathew, Thanks for confirming that this config makes sense. I'm going to stick with it until one of my clients needs more.
Also, thanks for the lead on monit. I'd been using a home-brew restart script, but a quick look at the surprisingly good monit docs make me think this is a tool I've been looking for. Mongrel is great, BTW. One of those programs that just works.
