Actually you mention RSS feeds, and that reminded me of something.
I've noticed that my mongrels die at night sometimes as well, and it's
during something similar to feed creation, but it's not the app that's
causing the issue.

We're doing a mysql db optimize around that time, and it ends up
locking a bunch of the tables, which in turn causes the mongrels to
hang and eventually monit restarts them.

So if it happens mainly at night, maybe there is some maintenance
going on at the same time.
