You can either compile monit from source or use the binary distribution for linux which is available from the download page.
The upgrade should be easy (drop-in replacement) - monit is just one binary. Note however that some linu distributions modify the default monit configuration file name (monitrc -> monit.conf) so you may need to rename the configuration file. Otherwise no special upgrade procedure is necessary, the configuration is backward compatible.
