The /tmp directory is the system generic temporary directory, this means that any user and/or any process could use it for their own purposes. And it not uses smartctl at all, but the 'hddtemp' tool. This means that to get all the interesting values that SMART can give us for each disk drive, it indeed would need a completely new graph and collector.
