Hi Peter,

I know that this new 2.x branch no longer comes with an install script 
to make things easier for people without an specific build package. The 
main reason for this decision was that lot of people use it even on 
systems with an existent build package and they end up messing all their 
system.

Unfortunately I'm not an expert on creating .deb packages for 
Debian/Ubuntu systems, so we must wait for some advanced user on such 
systems to create a .deb package and put it for general availability.

Someone told me he was working on it, but this was a month ago, so I'm 
afraid he didn't succeed on it.
