I have not seen this performance issue but i will dedicate some time to
measure the server behavior when using the Auth plugin (you should expect
an email from me within 12 hours).

What are the relative URL address that you are trying ?, e.g:

 - protection is applied on http://something.com/dir
 - the video is located at http://something.com/videos

for your case, what are those ?
