I realise I could just install the build from the download page
however there is a change relating to the XmlTypeAttribute class
which was implemented on the 21st September which I need in order to
 get a web service working.

+Have you tried Mono 1.1.17.2 package for SPARC 8 from Mono's Download
+page?
+
+If I remember correctly, the release source tarball includes the
+managed base class library assemblies and mcs. Make sure when
+compiling the release you are not using your installed mono 1.1.13.
+
+If all else fails, build mono from subversion.
+
+Maybe you can contact the author of the person who provided the mono
+solaris packages at blastwave.org and ask what did they do to build
+mono 1.1.13 and its dependencies.
+
+I've used blastwave.org, but I'm not sure if all the packages you get
+include both sparc and x86. What happens if you try to run solaris
+x86 binaries on solaris sparc?
+
+However, I will leave you with Zoltan since he's the expert. :)
