 Mike, I think I've found a cause (although don't have a solution yet).
 What breaks mod_mono is the --nonstop flag passed to the
 mod-mono-server backend. If you run xsp with the flag, it will lock up
 as well.

+I can confirm that I experience the same behavior as you point out. 
+With a fresh bootstrapped copy at SVN HEAD, if I run xsp2 --nonstop,
+no requests are served.  However, if I omit the --nonstop argument,
+xsp2 serves requests as expected.
