Calling System.Net.Mail.SMTPClient.Send with network credentials throws
exception "504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authorization type" with StatusCode
System.Net.Mail.SmtpStatusCode.CommandParameterNotImplemented. Specifying the
authorization type as "Basic", "NTLM", "Digest", "Negotiate",
"IntegratedWindowsAuthentication", "Anonymous", or "None" results in the exact
same bahaviour. Attached project provides reproduction.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Declare new SMTPClient with valid SMTP server and port.
2. Declare new MailMessage with valid To, From, Subject, and Message.
3. Declare new NetworkCredential with valid Username and Password.
4. Assign NetworkCredential object to SMTPClient.Credential property.
5. Invoke SMTPClient.Send with the MailMessage as the parameter.
Actual Results:
Throws exception "504 5.7.4 Unrecognized authorization type". Attempting to
specify the type via NetworkCredential.GetCredential with values "Basic",
"NTLM", "Digest", "Negotiate", "IntegratedWindowsAuthentication", "Anonymous",
or "None" results in the same.
Expected Results:
Sends the e-mail, as this code works correctly under Microsoft Windows OS
versions.
Performance of this issue was identical in the latest version of Ubuntu as of
this writing.
