At Novell many of use Visual SlickEdit great editor that has been around for 10+
years. I believe the current version is 8.0 and is available for most platforms. A
few years ago they had a text only version of their editor that was really nice; not
sure if you can still get it though.

Seems like kate is getting quite popular!
If there was just good folding (remove the { brace by example), it would be
100% perfect.
Oh, and a Windows version would be fun, using kate at work :P
