You need to include the assembly reference at compile time: % mcs file.cs -r:System.Runtime.Remoting.dll ...
All of the Remoting namespace stuff is in the System.Runtime.Remoting assembly. The compiler rightly complains because you did not specify where to find it to the compiler.
