Cocoa# is a fantastic tool for C# developers targeting the Mac, but there is a lot of value in bringing Gtk+ applications that were developed for Linux/Unix to work out of the box on the Mac, with the native UI. So that is why doing a Gtk+ backend to Coregraphics/AppearanceManager makes sense: to turn plenty of existing Gtk+ apps into apps that look and feel like the Mac ones.
