When using mod_mono, you still have the handler configured in web.config, right? When you get the 404, it's a standard Apache 404 page and not an ASP.NET "Server error" type page, right? You restarted Apache? You should play around with the Location directive until you see that it's doing something. You can try "SetHandler server-status" instead also to see if it's an Apache config issue and not a mod_mono issue.
