Mac OS X uses its own icon format (although it could be a JPG, not sure at the moment) and a bundle format for the executable. This is explained here:
http://www.monobjc.net/index.php?page=anatomy-of-an-application Generally .NET programs (aka whatever.exe files) have no nice icon on Mac OS X and cannot be started directly from the GUI until they are packaged up as a bundle. You probably need a Mac to create a Mac icon and a bundle.
