I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot," with Wine version 1.2.3, and have
seemingly installed the Windows version of Mono onto the Wine installation.
But apparently this is not the case. I tried following the instructions on
the "Mono Basics" page, and when I got to the step where I'm supposed to
enter the command line "gmcs hello.cs" (modifying the line as necessary
depending on where "gmcs.exe" and "hello.cs" are), I get this error message
(screen output in regular type; *my input in bold*):

brandon@ubuntu:~/Documents$ *wine "C:/Program
Files/Mono-2.10.6/lib/mono/2.0/gmcs.exe" ./hello.cs*
wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
brandon@ubuntu:~/Documents$

At this, I just want to do something to my computer that I'll later regret,
yelling to myself, "But I just INSTALLED Windows Mono, ya jerk!"

Maybe I missed a step somewhere. Can someone tell me what's wrong with this
picture, and what I'm possibly doing wrong?

Thank you.

Brandon Taylor
