Hi, Mono is very much alive. It's an open-source project, after all, so I doubt it could be "closed" (no pun intended). Anyway, the story is that Novell was acquired by another company (Attachmate), which ended up firing the Mono team. So the Mono team created its own company, called Xamarin.
