Perhaps I could have been clearer - my library is already an unmanaged code written in C. Are you suggesting a byte array as a function return value? Not sure how that would work - this is data asynchronously arriving from an outside source that needs to be decoded and then passed up to the main app. The library is effectively a user-land device driver.
