Hello Michael, > So, did I misunderstand you or will GUI apps developed on Linux not port > smoothly to Windows? > > Again, I am not talking about web services... I fought hard to get a Winforms application from Windows to Linux, and I have given up on that. But yes, GTK# would be an option.
Does your sample GTK# application compile in Monodevelop, but then crashes when you start it? Or fails already during compile time? Does it crash on Windows, or on Linux? Which version of MonoDevelop are you using? I just started MonoDevelop 4.2.2, which was installed according to http://www.pokorra.de/2013/12/easy-installation-of-current-mono-and-monodevelop-for-all-major-linux-distributions/, and created a new GTK# 2.0 project (in C#), which has a hello world stub, and it compiles and starts fine on Xubuntu 12.04.
