We don't have that problem - We have servers with a whole bunch of clients 
continuously connecting simultaneously, and both the connection time and the 
throughput perform well and reliably.  My main concern is the lack of upkeep - 
mono SslStream doesn't support TLS 1.2, and receives very little 
development/maintenance attention.
