Ah, you're right. Running 'mcs' on WinME fails with the message "Could not run the given program. _CorExeMain failed." So I guess that means if I remove the MS .NET runtime, I won't be able to build anymore?
I've cc:-ed this to the list in the hope that someone more experienced can explain what the problem is.
