The mac driver is slower because the cairo backend is slow. It needs to be rewritten.

The speed is there on X11 and on Win32, I can see no reason why SWF apps
wouldn't have the same speed on the Mac.

However, since the driver for the Mac has so far been done by a single
volunteer, maybe he can get some help? It seems that there's a lot of people
asking/wanting, but nobody contributing?

Subject: [Mono-winforms-list] Mono 1.1.5 and Winform OSX Performance?

Hi All,

I know OSX Winforms are still very very early alpha..

But.. I do have a couple of questions.

When I tested a simple example using the 1.1.5 DMG file I noticed a coupe
of things.

1) Initially all controls were displayed for 0.5 sec, then some
disappeared.
If I move the mouse over the area or resize the winform they
reappeared.

2) The controls look ok, but speed is very average..
For example.. If I have a tab control and select the second page
you see the empty page then the controls apear.

Also when I moved a slider the gui updates ok etc.
But there is a noticable lag between movement and display update.

Will Mono be able to run GUI apps with a native look/speed when the code
base is optimised ?

Any info much appreciated.

Andrew
