There is currently no work going on in this area. If anyone wants to play with this, I would suggest looking at implementing the System.Windows.Forms.VisualStyles namespace for linux/mac. This namespace breaks it down into tiny little elements to implement, and then we already have George's excellent VisualStyles theme that puts all those elements together to paint the controls.
