I am currently evaluating Xamarin product for mobility developpement.
As I have to develop for Android AND for iPhone, I bought own a mac mini as dev platform for iOs. I tried monodroid on both platform Windows & MacOs. I fully preferred my VisualStudio tools but as you said the catastrophic performance for the Android Emulator on Window is a blocking point for adopting monoDroid. I made a test with MonoDevelop under a Mac, and surprise, the android emulator performance on MacOs (for debugging purpose) is fairly correct !!! Then, I actually user my vs2010 for server and main mobility development (WP7 is my primary mobility target), and use monoDevelop on Mac for the Android & iPhone specific dev. I havent try Monodroid on a real device because I need to validate the adequation of xamarin tools before recommend buying it to my customer. I find it much more usable with a real device connected. Also, be sure to get the latest version (1.0.3) as theres a number of fixes that improve the debugging experience aswell. I'm not quite sure what the issues are, but there is a definite difference. It's totally unusable, even on my new i7 with 8 gigs of ram, the emulator is abysmal. So, my question is, if you use a *Real* device, what's the time like for a code change, deploy execute and hit a breakpoint? When trying this with the Eval, from the time I hit "Debug -> Start" till it hits the breakpoint, could be as long as 90 seconds, then single stepping goes off into the weeds. Does the debugger work on a real device? What's the typical turn around time? -- View this message in context: http://monotouch.2284126.n4.nabble.com/Performance-in-the-Eval-tp3776676p377 6676.html Sent from the MonoTouch mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ MonoTouch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/monotouch _______________________________________________ MonoTouch mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/monotouch
