How long does a Release build of HelloWorld [0] take to launch for you? This is
the minimum startup time you can expect to see.
For example, on my Nexus One, Mono for Android 1.2:
I/ActivityManager( 96): Start proc mono.samples.helloworld for
activity mono.samples.helloworld/.HelloAndroid: pid=11120 uid=10064 gids={}
I/ActivityManager( 96): Displayed
mono.samples.helloworld/.HelloAndroid: +2s451ms
So ~2.5s to start.
As a teaser, the next release of Mono for Android:
I/ActivityManager( 96): Start proc mono.samples.helloworld for activity
mono.samples.helloworld/.HelloAndroid: pid=11516 uid=10064 gids={}
I/ActivityManager( 96): Displayed
mono.samples.helloworld/.HelloAndroid: +1s141ms
~1.2s to start, or less than half the time.
