You can check if they are getting written to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio
10.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplates\CSharp\Mono for Android
If they are, see if they are getting written to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio
10.0\Common7\IDE\ProjectTemplatesCache\CSharp\Mono for Android
