Hi,

If I read well, Mono will be abandoned, isn't it?

I'm going to say what I've said since the initial pricing was announced - it was overpriced and should have had tiered SKU's. The fact that Mono was encumbered with a commercial license for key elements and therefore stifled all "free" alternatives was horrible. Other projects using the LGPL have added a static linking clause, Novell chose not to.

I guess the most important thing now is - will this new venture own their own work, or will the Novell/Attachmate licence the Mono core elements that are LGPL to them? If the new venture has a commercial license for the elements that are not free to be statically linked, what reassurance is there going to be that the licensor will respect that license going forward. Especially in light of the direct competition that will happen upon release?!
