Hi Mg, Alan tracked this down earlier today and fixed it in git. In the meantime, you can download and install http://download.xamarin.com/monodevelop/Mac/MonoDevelop-2.8.2.dmg to have a working Xcode sync again until 2.8.5 is released (hopefully mid next week).
Apparently a new AppleScript command was added that didn't 'activate' Xcode first, which is what was causing a hang. Hope that helps!
