This sounds like a reasonable approach, but you likely need more then just the current view as when the bottom half gets past mid-screen the part of the "page" being flipped shows the top half of the next screen. I'll look into the layer transforms a bit more and perhaps experiment with some prototypes using the general concepts you described.
I may skip to step 5 first rather then waiting to get everything working first :) Anyone else have any alternate approaches they'd recommend?
