My app has the same but each table view item is a record in the DB which can be edited. So if I'm running on iPhone an Edit button takes you to the Edit view. On IPad I use a split window the left displays the current path through the Navigation tree, the left/detail area shows the edit window for what ever record/type is selected at that time.
