That's why you also store the generated ID using NSUserDefaults, so long as the user backs up their phone's data via iTunes, their ID is preserved across phones, or so I have read, I have not actually put it to the test. But I believe that is the case, otherwise, it would be kind of painful every time I upgraded my phone, I'd have to re-set up every app.
