The forums/maillist debate is ancient and endless. Nothign is beign said here that hasn't been saoid a million times before.
Fact of the matteris that serious old gaurd geeks like mail-lists. The younger generation, as well as those not so hard core geeky, by and large prefer forums. The usual solution is to have the forums be able to mail posts out and accept replies by post in.
