Robbin, I bought a CDI roller furler from Sailnet 3 years ago. I single hand exclusively. Due to the limited space in the fore deck, it has been way easier with a furler. I ordered a new fore stay from jerry, sent him pictures and measurements and it came back perfect. I could have used the same one but I wanted it to be perfect, and it was. I had the local sailshop add a number 6 luff tape to my 130 and it has been fine. I sailed my first race this weekend and everybody was commenting on the maroon sails (tanbark) now everybody knows what a Montgomery looks like. Yes there was quite a difference in the handling with new stiff sails. I had 1 reef and jib rolled up to 100% the winds were at 25 knots gusting to just under 30, I was out for about 4 hours, and I never felt overpowered. I did however, had pretty white knuckles and a bad case of fiberglass butt since the cushions kept slipping away. Just a tip for ordering sails, if you can send in the old ones so they can be cut accordingly. I will add a headboard and slugs to my new sail, I will welcome the challenge since I fancy myself somewhat of a hobbist. I love the 6.5 oz Dacron, nice and heavy I needed that this weekend.
PS I did not finish the race, I thought I would follow the other boats, not realizing how slow by boat is. After the second mark I was the only sail out, and I was completely lost as to where the marks were.
