Our M17 has a 2.5HP 4 stroke yamaha, which is very lightweight. It pushes the boat around at about 4.5 knots with 2 large adults in it. I think we could probably get 5 knots or a bit more with a larger motor, but the whole point of the boat is sailing anyway, so I haven't bothered. It is nice to have an engine that is light enough that you don't have to worry about leaving it on the transom mount for short on the road trips...saves an extra couple of minutes set-up time.
