Whereas I agree that it sucks that the old forums got shut down, that's the exact reason http://mooforum.com was made.
It's for mootools users, by mootools users. The devs can focus on what they do, and everyone else has a forum. Any kind of "official" or "unofficial" is a moot issue - post there, post here, post both.
