Thats exactly the problem. The browsers don't return the same for event attributes. My workaround works fine for IE6 and IE7, but throws this error in IE8 Unfortunatly I don't have a PC running IE8 at the moment so I can't start debugging this. Could anyone else probe for the return value in IE8 by using my first alert-example? If I knew this and the version number of trident engine used in IE8 I could build another workaround for IE8.
