The IE images are "time bombed" so that after a certain date (quarterly, I think) they'll only stay open for an hour, and then force a reboot for the image. But most often, 60 minutes (I swear it's longer) is more than enough for my testing. Plus, they allow me unfettered access to a "dev machine" that hasn't been tweaked to allow a more "like the end user" experience.
IETester threw too many errors and crashed too much for my liking, and multiple IEs was dropped the first time I opened the virtual PC and saw a different result from a real copy of IE6.
