If you mean the examples of (/^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/).test('some string'), then I would say that it's purely stylistic -- there's functionally no equivalent (that I can tell) between (/^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/).test and /^[a-zA-Z0-9]+$/.test.
