Note that my Book (MooTools Essentials) is a bit older than the beginner's guide. It's more technical and perhaps more detailed, but there are a few things that have changed in the 1.2 API that aren't captured in my book (all the concepts are the same though). The 1.2 Beginner's Guide is really that; a beginner's guide. You won't get really deep details out of it that you might get in my book, but the flip side is that all the examples in the beginner's guide are really accessible. Both of them are pretty quick reads.
