As always, Freeman's sense of humour with his descriptions of the Rudy cards has raised a smile Down Under. As I recall it was over a fall-down-laughing description on one of his listings a couple of years back that Freeman and I first "met". We've been having some wry chuckles ever since through cyberspace.

Thanks Freeman! They are great cards. Rudy was such a huge star and so many who even remember that fact are gone themselves. Tens of thousands of hysterical fans turned out for his funeral procession... for years the "lady in black" was seen at his grave on the anniversary of his death... Ken Russell made an absolutely bizarre film about his life. I visited the set of VALENTINO while it was shooting at a grand hotel in London to celebrate the publication of a book on Ken's films... and met the stars, even the aloof dancing Rudy who played acting Rudy signed for a favoured few and by the end of the night everybody was drunk. Now of course even dancing Rudy has gone.

I wonder how much more these fabulous cards Freeman is offering might have been worth when there were more Valentino collectors alive? Interesting to see how even iconographic stars of the cinema fade in collectorbility value as "their" generation of collectors ages and passes on. To so many people, Valentino, Chaplin, Keaton, et al from the 20's to the '40s are just arcane names, with only devoted cinephiles who want to know the history of the cinema even knowing their names.

A few weeks ago I told a young friend that Marlon Brando had died. This is someone who goes see every new movie... and his response, "Yeah, I think I heard of him. He was an actor, wasn't he?"

Now, what to do for the rest of the day? Dump negatives on our deadbeat bidders, list more stuff, read a book, watch a movie, pack a parcel, do some gardening in the lovely Winter sunshine or just sit on the veranda and whittle.

Gee, what a tough life.

Everyone have a nice one out there!
Regards,
Phil Edwards

Subject: [MOPO] For Sale Exclusive To Mopo'ers 4 Original Valentino Lobby Cards STONE MINT

HEY GUYS, FREEMAN HERE.

I wanted to offer 4 Lobby Cards until 6:00 PM  August 11 priced individually or  all together that defy conventional wisdom for any paper over 80 years old as they are absolutely stone mint. These are from the original 1922 US release of Rudolph Valentino's BLOOD AND SAND.  Apparently never used and mint,  cards all feature Valentino and are exquisitely hand tinted.   Price includes shipping anywhere in the world.  Swipe and paste each URL address to view individual lobby.  This is a onetime chance to be sure to acquire a vintage lobby card(s) of one of the great legends in the history of cinema and in indisputably mint condition.  Priced with room on top to sell to discriminating  clients who depend on you to find them the best.

Matador Valentino showing just how macho he can be by allowing his unfiltered Lucky Strikes to burn to his fingers while bullring sluts make googly eyes.  The most colorful and hand tinted of set. Flawless  $450

Valentino enjoyed  his most popular succes with this film whose story is summed up in this card.  To choose between the sexy  vamp, Nita Naldi  or the good Catholic girl Lila Lee. Unfortunately dressed like Joni Mitchell  may deep six his options.
Mint  $375

Valentino his facial _expression_ frozen in a muddle in between Lila Lee his childhood sweet heart on the right while realizing that the battle axe of a mother-in-law  on his left is his wife 20 years later.
Mint  $375

Valentino the lover, matador, and girlie man  at home  in the bull ring in this, the most popular card of the set.  Lobby card something of a miracle in this mint conditon  because due to its bright yellow back ground which I  have seen twice before for sale and both times soiled and dulled.
Stunnng  $450

Take All Four  for $1600.
