MOPO Friends,

I posted this in the wee hours this a.m. on Movie
Poster Talk to little or no response except from a
couple of friends. Maybe at a more respectable hour
and on MOPO we can generate some discussion about
this.

A response to the earlier thread about eBay headaches
with a few comments and questions. I think many in our
hobby share a bit of a love/hate affair where eBay is
concerned. I love the bargains, the hunt (yes, even
wading through mugs and magnets for that occasional
great buy-it-now at 2 am.) The sales aren't what they
used to be in the late 90s, but hey, what is? The
constant overautomation and lack of personal service
are the biggest thorns I think. I personally think the
good has outweighed the bad, but I'm a collector at
heart. For those complaining, though, what will it
take to guide others to an alternate venue?

Question for Bruce: I know that you've offered some
fixed price auctions on Movie Poster Bid, but the lack
of tracking results makes it hard to see sales
history. Were the results so underwhelming that you
don't see it taking off? They were light for me at
first too, but things are slowly but surely getting
better by the week. With Ed and Sue at LAMP now on
board with JR at Movie Poster Bid, the LAMP site and
all of its traffic is bringing more people in than
ever. But where is that big wave of sellers?

I BIN a lot of new material on ebay from constant
sources of current/upcoming releases and one of my
very favorite people to deal with in the world is Dale
Dilts. Dale, if you're reading this, thanks for
another great 8 or 10 in the mail this week. If you
and a couple of other sellers of new releases would
drop a few on MPB, you might be surprised at the
results. The price is right for listing and ending
fees, and the market is wide open for currents. I can
assure you I'll be bidding and BINing with you if you
list on there.

It takes buyers and sellers to make a site, and I
honestly don't see the downside of giving it a try.
I'm not the president of the I Hate eBay club; I still
buy and sell a good bit on there. But so many in this
hobby have always cried out for a dedicated original
poster venue, and now that it's here, I fear it's
being underutilized. I'd be very interested to hear
feedback on this alternative, where it's headed, why
it hasn't taken off like wildfire yet, etc. I can
assure you this: MPB is run by real people who condone
no tomfoolery where automated feedback indifference,
mislisting, deceit and so many other headaches of our
hobby and the big E are concerned. So let's
discuss.....

Take care,
Fred
