Dear Bruce, et.al.

The Emergency Broadcast System is now the EAS-- Emergency Action System-- and works with those annoying weather maps and bullitens on your tv screen to inform you that it's raining buckets a hundred miles from you.
In Mississippi it interrupts programming without warning to inform us of Severe Thunderstorms, Flash Floods and Tornados.  It generates an annoying tone followed by a computer-generated message.  Some wag with a sense of humor (rare in Ms.!) has programmed ours to be delivered in a male voice that sounds like it emerged from the depths of the Russian Steppes---- a howling nod to the folks here who still believe in "Commahniss!"
I think it was done to punish the state for continuing to elect former Majority Leader, Ole Miss cheerleader and Bigoted Bore Trent Lott to the United States Senate.
And for that I apologize to you all!!
Joe Bonelli
PS-- But, yes-- the EAS is in service and is actually in use. Let's hope John Ashcroft and Tom Ridge never get hold of it!! And official tests are conducted weekly.
Joe
PPS-- You haven't lived until you've tried to introduce Beethoven to the seven stations that are NOT receiving the EAS bulliten at the time it interrupts. You have to pretend it's not there.

Scott has altered my MoPo membership so I should now be able to post, but
will NOT receive the MoPo e-mails. To view them I will have to go to the
site myself at
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/index.html

If all works well this e-mail will go to all the members, and it will also
be archived on the above page.

It it DOESN"T work, then either this message won't be distributed and/or it
won't be archived, and Scott will have to go "back to the drawing board".

Of course, I imagine some of you will WISH my messages are never posted,
but that is a story for another time.

Bruce

P.S. Had this been an actual emergency, you would also have received
instructions on where to tune your radio for your local area.

P.P.S. Does anyone know if the "Emergency Broadcast System" was ever
actually used OTHER! than as a test? Does it still exist? Do they play
those incredibly annoying tests anymore?
