Freeman here.
I have searched every auction catalog I have and numerous books and surfed web sites........and I can't find one image of a 1929 Cocoanuts lobby card anywhere. Does anyone have a scan or image they can send me please to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks.
I did find one thing, and when I get back from restoration I'll upload for your viewing. The Cocoanuts insert that seems to have been picked up from an auction and catalog in the early 90's and evidently copied ad infinitum is not an original..........a big difference at least with mine.....Mine has Paramounts All Talking Music Comedy hit printed at top and a clearly visible Paramount logo in lower left corner. The insert image so pervasive on websites from A-Z has also found itself to two recently published poster reference books on comedy and movies not Nominated. Again not containing these two seemingly critical elements to make it an original from 1929. Further confirmation comes in the Chronicle of Cinema book, the halfsheet pictured in the '29 section also has this banner printed along the top.
I am not suggesting anything nefarious.........just an error that has been accepted as fact that of an original release, when point in fact its not.
I guess one mistake over 15 years of publishing catalogs and special editions can be easily forgiven ... and should be. But it is kind of a thrill, like the time I was the first to discover insouciance misspelled in a dictionary while in college put out by Roget's Thesaurus. It became a radio and newsaper lighter side because I was an Aggie at the time.
