Hey Gang,
I've been around for awhile and when I see that EBS
pattern come on the television I grab the remote to turn it down. However, when
I was about 4 years old in Columbus, Ohio, we were having a torrential rainstorm
and caught the tail end of a tornado. It was almost black outside and it was
about 10:00 a.m. in the morning. I was at home alone with the grandmother who
was in a wheelchair. The EBS came on the t.v. and started barking out
instructions, first off with "this is an actual emergency." The
grandmother starting freaking out and sent me to check out the windows and
doors. She sent me to check out the basement and when I opened the door to the
basement it was flooded. The water level was about 6' deep and almost up to
the top step. Furniture and all kinds of things were floating on the surface of
the water. I had the sense not to turn on the basement light as I had recently
learned how electricity works when a friend of mine stuck a penny in light
socket and wound up on the other side of the room. I shut the door fast and
prayed. That incident with the EBS siren and the narrator's voice has stuck with
me to this day. So, everytime I see that thing on t.v. I hold my breath.
