My other half and I spend quite a considerable time when choosing frames for
our collection of posters.  It just adds to the pleasure we get from the
posters themselves and we definitely believe the right frame will embellish
each piece.
Whenever our framer gets a new style of frame, we get a small sample and
then work out if it would suit anything we've been waiting to hang.  We've
been quite patient at times, but sooner or later, we find the one we feel
happiest with.  So far, no arguments on this particular subject .. we save
that for the more mundane things.

    Sam at Postertati is a well known movie poster shop in New York City,
the origin of the article. I'm sure that is why he is mentioned. I agree to
a certain degree with the author. I have many customers that, if money were
no object, would choose quite different framing than they do. We sort of
have a running joke around here and that is when a husband and wife come in
to frame something, the guy wants basic black, but that isn't usually what
they walk out the door with. 9 times out of 10, the husband defers to the
wife's choice, even if her choice didn't look as well as black would have.
Believe it or not, I have had husbands and wives get into arguments, major
time, in front of me about framing. I imagine to myself if they can get this
worked up over some little issue like framing, what must the major issues in
their lives be like. Whew!!!
    I have one guy who likes everything in red!!  He is an older guy,
probably 60's, still single, and has a different lady in his life every time
he comes in. He's in the music business. Really nice guy, but a big flirt.
One of my customers is an engineer at Caltech and his frame choice is always
extremely geometrical and linear and basic black.  It's all cool to me.
However, I have found in my 20 years as a framer, my gay men customers have
the best taste in framing and clothes, not to mention cuter butts. (Hey
there has to be some benefit to this job!!)  That is probably why "Queer Eye
for the Straight Guy" is such a big hit on t.v.
