catchy huh?? :)
yesterday I loaded a truck of 16mm films after picking up a Movie book
author from Detroit metroo airport
Mr Richard Barrios- NYC has written a book on the Hollywood Musical - "
a song in the dark" -1995-Oxford birth of the musical film and "
screened out" =Rortledge-2002 about gay images in the cinema. Anyway
Richard bought 400 of my 16mm films and will be selling them on ebay.
As I was driving to the airport I started thinking who are the most
influential people that taught me in this Movie memorabilia business..
then I wondered who were some of the 1st I remember.
see many are just legendary and ive never spoke or met them.
But let me start with I stated doning Movie stuff in 77 as a business..
so atthe time.. I bought from Movie gallery in east meadow NY from Marty
Lifshultz , i bought from Richard Danilowitz in Boston, Randy from
Collectors warehouse in Cleveland and about 50 othee dealers that
advertised in Film collectors world, bigreel, classic images and more.
Like theater poster exchange in Memphis or kentucky. back then we had no
internet.
then along came John Kisch, wih his almanac, "the fandom book" and the
"Jon warren" books..this made the hobby have a sort of price guide..
Bruce Hershendon seemed to put the Poste Business as we know it on the
map alongwith Morrie Everett and his group.. these are the super
collectors.
The "Cinevent" and Rat courts and Veto Stasinaitis In Chicago along
with the show on the east coast which name eludes me Phil Eueling???
and the Jack Mulqeen show in chicago are the legendary ones..
the many Mall torind dealer and college circuit dealers like Ira picker
of Poster Pix, jeff Gainy who i told the other day to join MOPO who run
Iconographics and just opened a new store in Austin TX llike as did
Richard Haleguega In lasVegas ..
the many dealers in Europe.. and Canada- wow iused to get those Big
French posters from LaAffishe in Montreal for like 15.00 each!
the many poster shops accross the US.. Like remember when in Dallas ,
and Movie madness in Cinci..
the big sales of Todd Firetag of Orange NJ, I mean thos sale
legitimized posterin ways unheard of.
so my question of the week was what are the oldest memories of buying
Movie posters From who.. and who are the worlds most influential Poster
people that helped create interest in the hobby of Movie posters like
who staterd it.?.. where are the largets collections at..?
who was the 1st Movie poster seller.. te 1st Movie shop.
My memories are ' Cinemabilia" in NYC, jerry Ohlingers- NYC, Classic
Images and Sam Rubin.. and Larry Edmunds in Los angeles.. ansd all
the people in Film collectors world tha t became movie collectors world.
and Big reel - Don keys long running Magazine. who were all the poster
exchanges,, and then Scott and Mopo which put movie Posters in thene
millenium and cyberspace..
what a interesting Hobby its been. Thanks for letting me be part. and
its been Great learning from all of you dealers and most of all the
collectors who each day tell me about inside backgrounds
on a whos who of show biz. very interesting stuff..
wow am i reminising bigtime..
best, Tom
